I have been in health care since 2000, starting off as a volunteer in the Emergency Department, and progressing to rehab tech assistant. Yes, I was the person helping the technician, folding a ton of laundry, and wiping down all the equipment.
I did complete my Master’s in Physical therapy in 2006 from the University of New Mexico. As a military brat, the word change is embedded in my psyche and and I have worked in hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient clinics and visited clients in their homes.
Opportunities to grow continued throughout my career, and I was excited that P.T.s can also perform wound care. I completed my board-certification in Wound Care through the American Board of Wound Management in 2015.
I then noticed there was a link between managing lymphatic flow and healing of wounds. I took another course and became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist in 2017. In March of 2021, I completed the requirements and board exam for the Lymphology Association of North America.
This led to working one-on-one with clients going through or having gone through Breast Cancer treatment. Working with these strong and courageous people helped me grow as a person and a therapist.
